Research Scientist – Microfluidics

We are seeking an experienced research scientist with demonstrated expertise in microfluidic devices and assays. This position is an excellent opportunity for talented and motivated individuals seeking a challenging scientific or engineering role in a start-up environment developing rapid, cost-effective molecular tests for point of care and at-home use. The candidate will be a member of our device engineering and system integration team and work closely with our molecular assay development team. The ideal candidate will have a track record of developing miniaturized assay platforms and have the capability to effectively work across multiple domains of expertise.

Zymeron aims to transform diagnostic testing by developing innovative molecular assays for infectious diseases that are designed to enable accurate and reliable sample-to-result at the point of care or at home yet being low cost and rapid. The assay and device work together to provide central laboratory-level accuracy and be operated by untrained users in any decentralized setting.

  • Job Type: Full Time

Description of Roles

  1. Perform research to identify emerging trends and technologies for rapid and automated lab-on-chip detection and monitoring of cellular, molecular, and microorganism targets.
  2. Research, design, prototype, evaluate and develop devices for processing and testing biologics and clinical samples; Test and validate established bioanalytical assays on device prototypes and make modification and improvement to meet target product profile and intended end use.
  3. Develop microfluidic and nanofluidic based rapid diagnostic assays, and field-deployable sensing and monitoring platforms.
  4. Integrate fluidics with optics for applications in automated imaging and fast throughput sample analysis.
  5. Design assay development plans and work collaboratively with the molecular assay development team. Lead efforts to integrate molecular assays onto microfluidic and other miniaturized device platforms. Development integration plans and testing plans to evaluate performance comparisons on miniaturized platform with laboratory tests. Mature assay technology and define operating requirements for better usability and overall clinical performance.

Requirements

  1. PhD. in analytical chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related fields with 5+ years of relevant laboratory research or product development experience.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in developing rapid molecular assays. Knowledge and experience using quantitative methods to analyze, optimize, and characterize molecular assay performance characteristics.
  3. Experience with microfluidic device fabrication and analytical system integration. Familiarity with standard methods of industrial manufacturing of such devices.
  4. Strong data analysis skills with knowledge and experience with statistical tools and related software.
  5. Demonstrated attention to detail. Strong self-direction.
